cross.jpgWhat We Believe

  • We profess no doctrine or dogma beyond belief in Jesus Christ.  All other matters are open to individual interpretation.  It is the right of every Christian to read the scriptures and decide on matters of opinion.
  • The Disciples have well-trained clergy and also a commitment to the priesthood of the laity as well.
  • The Disciples observe two sacraments:  Communion, open to all, as a central part of worship each Sunday and Baptism (by preference: immersion, though any form is acceptable)
  • The Bible is the inspired word of God.  In common with other Christian bodies, the Disciples have their fundamentalists and their liberals.
  • Humanity is viewed with original blessing in a good creation.
  • Women have been ordained since the late 1880’s in this denomination.
  • We do not view Christianity as the only path to God; it is but one of many.
  • We have a conviction that the church is one by divine design and we wish to show this unity to the world.
  • Unbending legalism is not the way we are to relate to God or to those in the household of faith.
  • We have a passion for lifting up what is essential in the gospel without being obsessed with forms to the neglect of neighbor.
  • Christian life is not about believing things; it is not about being good.  Rather it is about a relationship with God that involves us in a journey of transformation.
